The games here are free and use glints, a points currency with no cash value. Glints cannot be bought, sold or swapped for anything, and there are no prizes of monetary value.

Games hub: good ordinary games for an evening
A short, honest shelf of browser games we enjoy and would recommend to a friend: puzzles, words, maps, a flight simulator, a board game and a story. Nothing here is ours, nobody pays us to list it, and every link goes straight to the maker's own site.
The shelf
Filter by what you are in the mood for. Each pick has a full review with a first-sitting plan and a note on where to stop.

Simon Tatham's Portable Puzzle Collection
Puzzle
Dozens of small logic puzzles, each a fresh grid every time, with no adverts and nothing to sign up for.
Tell us how long you have and who is with you. We suggest two or three games that fit, each with a stop point, and leave a rest between them. Nothing is stored.

We leave the last hour before screens off free of games: sleep comes easier without a screen.
How we choose
Free to start. Every pick can be played without paying. Where a paid option exists, the review says what it adds.
Games that finish. A solved grid, a landed flight or one puzzle a day beats a game designed to run forever.
Honest about adverts and accounts. Each review lists whether the game shows adverts and whether you need to sign up.
Nothing embedded. We link to the official site in a new tab. We never copy a game, its artwork or its logo; the pictures on this page are our own illustrations.
No payment, no ranking deals. None of these makers is linked to Questlowe, and the links earn us nothing. There are no affiliate or sponsored links.
Checked by hand. We read each official site before publishing and recheck every few months. The date is on every review.
Before you open a tab
Decide on one or two games for the evening rather than browsing the whole shelf.
Games that show adverts may show ones you would rather not see; an ad blocker or the maker's paid option fixes that.
If a game asks for an account, use a password you do not use anywhere else.
Several picks work well with someone else in the room. Sharing a screen is a good way to keep an evening social.
Step away from the pack
Set the length of your break. The six games close on this device; reading, the quest log and the Games hub stay open.
From 60 minutes up, a pause runs its full length in this browser. More tools are on Responsible Play.
